Living Life

Well, this week off has been a blast to say the least.  I have done really nothing all week, but go to church and relax (which I have needed I have been burning the candles at both ends for a while now).

Last night I was just hanging at my house when a friend of mine showed up unexpectedly.  His name is Steve, and he drives a semi-truck all over the country.  I went with him once, that is a whole other post altogether.

As you all know, I am a DJ in Southern IL.  Steve and I had a great adventure last night.  We went to all the places that I DJ.  I know that might not sound fun, but its really great seeing the people that I have met and its also really great to be noticed (kinda like a hometown celebrity).  There is the occasional "Hey DJ, you didn't play my song last week." or, "Hey DJ, you rock." or my favorite is "Hey DJ, do you know that song, I can't remember the name or how it goes?" My response to that one can get really funny at times.

Also, this week marks my birthday week.  I used to have the whole month of April but, now its just a week.  With my new business it's great during this time because not only am I working and making money, I'm always celebrating my birthday and not spending money which is great!

This wouldn't be a Train's whistle post without at least one picture from the night last night.  So here it is.
 Kels Kay and I

Also, tomorrow night I get to go back to the grade school that I attended. I am the DJ their 7th and 8th grade dance. Brett is going along, so that should be fun.  I will let Brett tell that story since he is much better at this than me.

So I am sure that this next week will be fun, tiring, and great all at the same time....

  2. Well happy birthday to you Train !

Make the most of having a birthday "week", because the day WILL come when you just want to bury your head in the sand and pretend it isn't happening, then when your friends decide that's bollocks and you ARE going out to celebrate it takes you a week to get over it.

    Or maybe that's just me....

Sorta feel like I'm following someone famous now.

    1. Thanks!!!!!

I was talking with someone about my blog yesterday and I said I have had a really great time talking with Rachel, Red, Brett, and dirtycowgirl....It was really funny but, I didn't think anything of it. It came out natural and the look on the persons faces was priceless...

Your right after this one I won't celebrate it again for another 10 years!!!!

By the way after Bozo party of the year I will be famous!!!!

    2. Hahaha.

I actually think I have possibly the most miscontrued username ever. People seem to think it means something rather rude - or implies that I am.
I am. But the name is actually a musical reference.
Not that I mind when it gets taken the wrong way.

Just read Bretts blog - hope you're doing ok and not too sore.
      OUUUUUUCH.

      ps I woulda screamed too.

  3. I'm confused. (That's not so uncommon at the moment...there's a lot happening.) You say it's your birthday week, but you also said I hit the road on your birthday.

...I don't hit the road for another 9 days.

Are you living on a different planet that has a different number of days in their weeks? Just thought I should check. I'd totally love to visit another planet. Except Venus because I think their atmosphere is all poisonous to us Earthlings.

...so if you're on Venus I'll just stay here.

  5. Happy Birthday Train! I thought a double birthday was pretty good - but a birthday week is even better. I might start celebrating mine in the same way... Ahhhhh... love the thought... a little party or event each day. Splendid! ;-)

Have a great time at your old school - and I have a question for both you and Brett. How does Brett spend his time while you do your DJ stuff? He told me that he doesn't dance much... so how does he spend the time? Thanks :)

    1. I will field the first part of this.

I help set up and tear down since I can get around easier. During the show, it depends on what type of show it is.

At a bar, I don't do much. In fact, I rarely stay for the show. I set up and then leave. It is a simpler show, that mostly involves Train playing music.

Tomorrow is a school dance. I interact more with the students and faculty make sure everyone is happy.

My biggest role is during weddings. I stand out with the wedding party and direct them for when they are to enter as Train announces them. I relay messages to specific people since Train is usually working the table. I work the crowd to get a feel for the genre of songs that need to be played and take specific requests. I take the microphone into the crowd to find the right people who may have something to share with the new couple. Last week, I asked the grandfather of the groom (who had been married for 56 years)to give his grandson advice on how to keep the spice in their love life. That old man grabbed the mike and talked for five minutes. He was great.

The amount of crowd interaction and joking with the couple varies greatly depending on the families and their sense of humor. We can take it as far as they want to go, including learning embarrassing stories from their family or we may just play music.

    2. Thanks. I didn't realize there was so much to do once everything was set up.

The weddings in particular sound like so much fun... I've often thought that being a wedding planner (of sorts) would be a very engaging job. Working the crowd must be a blast!

    1. bozo- I'm doing good (as I can be) still in alot of pain but I have meds to help with that. I just got back from the doctor this morning and they are going to do an outpaient surgery tommorrow (I don't have the time yet). I think that I will be good after this hopefully.

Thanks for your concern and just wanted to let you know that me and Red are in War with each other now....She got mad at me today when I was with Brett at the ER!!! More about that later. I gave her a heart attack!!!!

    2. Hello Train, I'm sorry that I'm late to get back here and see your response. When I didn't see you at Brett's I presumed you weren't blogging for the time being.

I hope your pain is less or gone now! Surgeries are no fun - except that you guys manage to make them sound almost (I said almost!) enjoyable somehow.

I don't think you'll be a match for Red though lol. She has passion on her side... no guy could beat it!

  7. (Train, after this morning...I don't want to keep monopolizing Brett's fb. It's no offence to you of course, but you must by now realize where my priorities lie. If you think Brett is being mean to you, that's your lookout. You GAVE ME A FREAKIN' HEART ATTACK! Are you kidding me? I thought I was losing him before I ever had him! Oh it's on, dude. It's on like Donkey Kong!)

    2. I'm not in Trouble!!! I'm not scared!!! I'm really excited for my best friend to have someone cared about him just as I do.

Red, you should know us by now to not take anything so serious and that we always have to make fun of a bad situation.

I'm sorry that I have you a heart attack, it wasn't my intentions at all...

Just also wanted to let you know that I can take and dish it out as well so if you are calling war....Then war it is!!! lol

    3. I'll pound on you for a while, then we'll be good. I'll leave my axe at home, just in case my "real" temper takes over. ;)
